The girls arrived and walked into the coffee shop…

“whoa…Damn those girls need to know the 411 about make-up”

“what do they look like?”

“emm…they’re eyes”

“I’ll say it!...their eyes alone have every freakin’ color known to mankind…you have to dig deep to
find their skin over all that grayish mountain of foundation…oh and their cheeks…my god they’re so pink you’d think they work at a circus.”

They girls cracked up again….Hind seriously shows no mercy.
as they were heading to a table

“oh my god” Joury barely exhaled.

“what?”

“shfeech Joury?” the girls asked concerned over the sudden changed in mood…one word was able to worry the girls…






“Saif”





“OMG wain?!”

“right there…what do I do?!”

“Nothing!” Lulu spoke up

“Did he see you?!”

“No”

“we can’t leave he’s right outside the entrance”

“maybe there’s a back door?”

“Hay!! Shfeekom?!! Wetha Saifo mawjood? Shino ya3ni?!! Maytjara2 eyee 9obna…ba3dain we’re here to have our dose of coffee and gossip”

“Gossip?”

“chub you know what I mean”

The girls rarely gossip…nothing really interesting in that they majorly talk about what’s happening in their lives, their plans…cute guys around campus…

“Joury you want to stay?”

“ha?” Joury's eyes still staring at Saif….

“Joury!”

“na3am?!” her head spun around to face Lulu who looked really uncomfortable.

“I don’t know…you know what no…I’m not moving…it doesn’t look like he’ll be coming in right?”

“right”

“right!”

“you sure?”

“yes…”

Joury didn’t dare look back at him. But what really went through her mind is how good he looked…sure there were the bruises 9ali7 gave him but he didn’t look heartbroken.

Saif walked in with his best friend…who knows every detail of Saif’s Life…as any best friend he wanted to beat the crap out of 9ali7 but he knew 9ali7… he knew he was a good guy and he probably would have done the same thing if he saw his cousin with a man he warned to keep his distance …but he couldn’t help it…Saif’s his best and oldest friend and he knew how much Joury meant to him so his attitude was that of any friend looking out for their buds.

Saif stopped mid way when his eyes landed on the girl he fell for…

You see my friends…Saif isn’t the one-woman kind of guy but that changed after he met Joury…Joury in the beginning was a chase…she was going to be just another girl…a fling…something passing by…that’s how he intended it to be. He was having his fun and didn’t realize how much of an impact Joury would be in his life.

The moment he knew he was now the sucker…the poor schmuck who finally met his match…he couldn’t help but admire her…the one girl who was able to capture his heart…the one girl who changed him in a way that rarely happens.


He stood there in his white polo pullover and jeans starring at her…she could feel his stare…it made her uncomfortable but she didn’t want to look up.


“Don’t you guys dare look up his way” she whispered as she re-read the mini cardboard menu.
Her friends kept their heads down…staring at their knees…

“How long are we staying like this?”

“yeah How long do you think we can stay like this without anyone suspecting something was up”

“it’s going to be obvious”


The girls chatted… eyes focusing on their knees…it’s quite an image really. Four girls at a table starring at their knees as they chatted on how awkward this was for them.

“Lulu why are you looking down?”

“Ha? Emm madree…I just don’t want to look up”

They giggled….

“Ha? Joury can we look up?”

“not until he moves! God why the hell isn’t he moving from his place?”

“maybe because he’s in a state of shock”

“it’s not just him!”

“I know we all are if we’re going to keep talking like this might as well end up in a mental ward!”

Lulu and Janoon cracked up a bit but Joury was still in her own little world

“I told I wasn’t in the mood to get out!!”

“common Joury it’s not like we planned to run into him”

As the girls kept talk in their weird positions Saif’s best friend Jara7 tugged him to keep moving and not to just stand there like a complete idiot.

“Jaroo7 ihya malty ana…mu ay wa7ed yigdar eyeey wegool ‘3air hal 7achy”

“Lulu weyahum”

“laa laa min 9ijik” he lied uncertain….

Jara7 well…he’s a long story…he was once in a serious relationship he believed has been the greatest Love he’s ever experienced…she was smart…beautiful…gifted and she understood him…accepted him…wasn’t critical or bossy…she was who she was…and he Loved her…hell he was the Joke in his family and friends…he was teased over how much he was in his own little world thinking about her when he was with his friends…yes he was that in-love…all he thought of was her…just thinking about her brought this smile to his face…he considered himself to be a lucky bastard to have found her and so fast…it did take effort to get her but it was worth it in his eyes…

she was everything to him…yes was… all that was taken away from him… every year on that day he’d spend it alone on his yacht…his wife died on January 3rd…leaving him behind to grief. Yes he was married to her…they were married for 4 years …she died in a car accident he believes was his fault...he survived she didn’t…neither did their un-born child…he woke up days later to find himself wifeless…it never dawned on him that this Life he’s been living...that his love would leave him and so soon.


Jara7 isolated himself for a year…then came the phase where he went out with any woman who reminded him of his beautiful wife...he dated a girl because she had similar eyes to his wife…another for having the similar smile…another was a laugh…there was one with just the color of her eyes and nose shape…yes he was that desperate to find a shred of her left in this world for him…Saif was a rock…though he was the playboy of the group Saif turned out to be the biggest comfort of them all.

This is all 3 years back….Jara7 is 28 now and has been able to live on and move on but never forget. He’s happy and grateful but he’s still lonely…that side of him he kept hidden from everyone even Saif…he felt like having those thoughts of getting married or falling in-love again is something he’ll never have.

The men sat down at the table facing Joury’s…Saif was across from her while jara7 gave them his back so he didn’t really get a good glimpse of the girls .

Their heads were down…freakin’ out on what to do…his eyes on her.

“we’re leaving…bas ibser3a” she whispered

“ok…I’ll help Lulu”

“la intay wela ihya…Lulu weyay ana”

“fine”

“yalla”
They whispered…

Joury got up not looking at Saif…his heart skipped a beat..he slightly moved in his seat.
She hurried to Lulu’s side and helped her out…they quickly headed out…

“Jaroo7 warahum”

“Sayoof malna 5ilg ”

“goom” he bossed him as he hurried to catch Joury before she leaves…

He was on her tail…she felt him near but didn’t have the courage to look back at him.

“Joury” he called.

She could feel her spine melting and a cold shiver making its way around her…

“Joury!” the sound was so close to her ear…she froze in place…her friends surrounding her…
